Halloween Bat Wings

bat wingsThese ordinary chicken wings become eerie Bat Wings by the plating style.

Simply layout the wings on the serving plate by placing two side by side, with the wing tips pointing outwards. Simple creativity – even Dracula will be proud!

I’m including the original sauce recipe here but I prepared a roasted red pepper sauce when I made these because I’m allergic to tomatoes. (Love them, they just don’t love me back) : )

Have fun with this wing recipe – it’s great for kids and adults alike.
BTW – place a couple damp washcloths on the table too as they’re as messy as they are tasty.

Adapted from Babble – Bat Wings Recipe for Halloween

* 2 lbs. whole chicken wings, don’t separate or remove the wing tips
* 2 tablespoons molasses
* 1/4 cup soy sauce
* 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
* 1 clove garlic, grated
* 2 teaspoons black sesame seeds (I used standard toasted sesame seeds, as I could not find the black seeds)

Dipping Sauce 1
* 1/4 cup ketchup
* 3 tablespoons sweet garlic chili sauce
* 1 tablespoon sesame oil
* 1 teaspoon molasses

Dipping Sauce 2
* 1 small jar roasted red peppers
* 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
* 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder

For wings –
Combine the molasses, soy sauce, ginger, garlic and sesame seeds in a large bowl and mix well. Add the chicken wings and marinate 2 – 3 hours, or overnight which is best. Be sure to coat the wings well with the marinade.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Layout the chicken wings on a wire rack upside down and bake for 30 – 40 minutes. Halfway through the cooking time turn the wings over and brush with the remaining marinade. Chicken will be well browned when done.
